ZAP Day: Friday November 18th

Dear Students and Parents,

Next Friday, November 18th, is our National Parent Involvement Day, and we have planned some great activities for students and parents to enjoy. As we get closer to the 3rd Six-Week Progress Period ending, we have noticed that some students are not completing, submitting, or making attempts at some of their assignments resulting in zeroes in the gradebook and failing grades. When students do not complete their assignments, it does not help our teachers know what students know and are able to do or provide them with the needed information to plan for intervention and instructional support for students.  It also keeps students from doing the necessary practice needed with working with some material and content.

To support and encourage students to turn in their missing assignments, next Friday's National Parent Involvement Day on 11/18/22 will be a ZAP Day (Zeroes Aren't Permitted). These are the guidelines:

  • Students who have zeroes for assignments for the third six weeks (excluding those that are able to be made up due to absences according to district policy and excluding those that teachers will no longer offer credit for) will have until Tuesday, November 15th at the end of the school day to make-up and submit any missing assignments.
  • Students who do not make-up or submit missing assignments will not be able to participate in the One-Act Play, Talent Show, and Dodgeball Tournament portions of next Friday's activities. They will be supervised while given an opportunity to make up missing assignments. An email will be sent only to parents and students who will not be able to participate on Thursday, November 17th, to notify them.
  • All students will still participate in the activities portion of the day with their grade level, which may include movies, games, and/or quiet tech time; however, students with zeroes will  miss the play, talent show, and dodgeball events.

Parents and students, please check Skyward and communicate with your teachers about missing work that can be made-up and submitted.  Students will have a full week to bring their assignments up-to-date with the understanding about next Friday's ZAP Day.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great evening!

Sincerely,

Katrina Mabry-Smith, Principal
